How to become a Personal Stylist in Fashion to sell your services today (Easy Level)

Do you want to be a personal image stylist but don't know how to do it? Begin your journey in fashion advising other people on style, whether you have experience or not, because here I explain how to do it.

how to become a personal stylist

I recently received an inquiry from a person who wanted to start selling their services as a stylist, recently graduated as a beauty technician. So I wanted to make a guide of the basics that should be kept in mind when being a stylist and that can help any of you to start taking a step forward in materializing your dream of becoming a stylist.

When you start to carry out styling sessions, you have to take into account several concepts that you must necessarily address in your sessions if you want to provide a complete styling service, although if they ask you, you can also do them separately for the client:

  • Colour: Determining the clothing colors that best suit your client is essential to make their new wardrobe optimal. This can be determined by the seasonal color theory (12 seasons) or the traditional non-seasonal theory, being the most interesting and demanded seasonal.

  • The shape: Kibbe will tell us the style of garments that fit our client best. The traditional analysis of body and face types can be used as well, but Kibbe has a more comprehensive concept of 13 body and face types to which he has related clothing and accessories.

  • The style: the style of clothing that best suits our client will be the one that marks her Kitchener Kibbe essence and that complements the shape of the aforementioned garments obtained with the Kibbe analysis, in the colors from seasonal color analysis.

Then you can provide these services separately or provide a complete service of these three, and after analyzing, add these services to a personal shopper service and choose the garments for the client, accompanied by a wardrobe cleaning service and finally creation of looks.

However, in terms of training, whether you have completed official studies or not, focusing these studies on the real and practical field and converting theory into real services can be achieved with my training and tools that you can find in Esty explained step by step even taking into account the importance of the resource:

Styling Theory Ebooks (Necessary)

Learn the basics with the following ebooks:

  • Seasonal Color Analysis Ebook: find the information of the seasonal colour theory for all 12 seasons. Learn about the colour parameters and how each season is characterised. Check this here.

The other analysis ebooks Skin, Hair and Color Analysis (you will see them as three separate listings in the store) are ebooks for color analysis but regardless of seasonal analysis theory you can take them for more information.

  • Kibbe Body Types in PDF: Here I explain what female Kibbe body types and face types look like. (Still uploading ebook guide to male body types) check this here

Practical tools that support your work (Recommended)

These are Excels calculator-type tools to streamline your work as a stylist and learn more:

  • Seasonal Calculator: this tool is less known, but I like it the most. It helps you to know your Season of Color starting from scoring the characteristics of hair, skin and eyes and you get a more valid, concrete and fast result interesting to practice the theory, strengthen your knowledge and obtain a faster result with your clients when doing their seasonal color analysis: check this here

  • Kibbe calculators: the female Kibbe body type calculator is essential, because there are many parameters that make it difficult to clearly determine the Kibbe body type of a person without making any mistakes. It will help you to practice and learn the theory better and to obtain the Kibbe type of your clients check this here

You also have the Kibbe face type calculator because in some people the type of face does not match with that of the body. You can buy this optionally and it is related to the accessories close to the face: check this here

On the other hand, for male clients there is also the Kibbe male body type calculator. It is the same as the female calculator, but all the parameters have been adapted to the body of a man: check this here

  • Traditional Body Style Calculator: to know the body shape of your customers and to find out what clothes fit them according to their body shape, you need the body style calculator. Check this here
