16 Color Season Analysis vs 12 Color Season Analysis

Do you want to know the difference between the color theory of the 12 seasons and the color theory of the 16 seasons when it comes to finding the colors that best suit you to wear? Well, here we are going to talk about it to clear up your doubts.

16 color season theory

My specialty is the theory of the 12 seasons of color, but I have been curious to study the theory of the 16 seasons of color to better understand the colors that best suit us.

If you already know the theory of the 12 seasons of color, it will be easy for you to understand what I explain about the theory of the 12 seasons of color. And if you still don't know the theory of the 12 seasons of color you can find my Colorimetry Guide in my store to solve your doubts.

The 12 seasons of color theory has the following seasons:

Soft Summer, Cool Summer, Light Summer
Light Spring, Warm Spring, Bright Spring
Bright Winter, Cool Winter, Dark Winter
Dark Autumn, Warm Autumn and Soft Autumn

So what is the difference between the 16 seasons of color theory and the 12 seasons theory?

Well, in the theory of the 16 seasons of color you take each of the seasons winter, spring, summer and autumn and add one more sub-season to each one:

Soft Summer, Cool Summer, Light Summer, Dark Summer (new 16 seasons)
Light Spring, Warm Spring, Bright Spring, Dark Spring (new 16 seasons)
Bright Winter, Cool Winter, Dark Winter, Soft Winter (new 16 seasons)
Dark Autumn, Warm Autumn, Soft Autumn, Light Autumn (new 16 seasons)

This new sub-season would correspond to a missing new sub-season and would result in people who find it difficult to classify themselves. As the physiques of these people seem to be in between seasons.

What is my opinion on the 16 seasons of color theory?

In my opinion. And this is my way of looking at it. The new seasons introduced are seasons that are very similar to existing seasons in the 12 seasons theory and their difference is minimal:

Dark Summer is very similar to Soft Summer
Light Autumn is very similar to Light Spring
Dark Spring is very similar to Dark Autumn
Soft Winter is very similar to Soft Summer

So, the 12 seasons theory is much simpler and also valid. It is the most successful theory. But also with the theory of the 16 seasons we can be even more explicit which can help us to adjust more the shades that suit us. Anyway I am a Soft Winter / Soft Summer season.

What about the True seasons in the 20 Seasons theory?

And we can further refine our color analysis by using the 20 Color Season Analysis theory, as it includes even more color seasons. Many of the color shades found in the palettes of the 20 Color Season and 16 Color Season do not exist in the 12 Color Season theory.

This means that when we conduct a Color Analysis using the 12 Color Season theory, it is likely that we classify a person into a color season that is similar to their actual match within the 20 Color Season theory. This is my case, where I truly belong to the 20 Color Season Analysis, while the colors of the 12 Color Season suit me well but do not fully enhance my appearance.
