I was recently asked a question I had not previously explored: Kibbe body types in men. I discovered that this topic is not as commonly discussed as in the case of women, since the Kibbe scale has traditionally been applied to them. However, upon further research, I realized that the same Kibbe body types used for women are equally applicable to men.

However, an adaptation is required. Kibbe body types for women are characterized by silhouettes that highlight the hips and chest, a characteristic that undergoes notable changes in male figures. Importantly, if we stick strictly to the Kibbe body types designed for women when evaluating men, we could make mistakes. However, these body types are equivalent, although they have been adapted in a way that maintains the essence of the Kibbe scale when applied to men.

In general terms, men present notable differences compared to women in terms of their body shapes. In contrast to women, men tend to have hips that are only slightly wider, usually just one or two centimeters, than their waists. Simultaneously, they maintain a defined waist, but the area around the navel widens. Additionally, the shoulders in men are usually naturally wider than the widest part of the body, which is usually the abdominal area, regardless of whether you are a slim or curvy man. This can have a significant impact on the classification of Kibbe body types, especially those with more prominent shoulders.

Likewise, men tend to have less chest volume compared to women, and height varies significantly, since men are generally taller than women. If height is not taken into account, all men could be classified as yang male bodies on the Kibbe scale.

However, there are exceptions, such as some men who may have a slight widening of the hips, which could tilt them towards the yin body type categories, more associated with feminine characteristics. On the other hand, those men with a more notable development in the chest area can fit into various body types within the Kibbe scale.

What are the Kibbe body types for men?

Kibbe body types emerged as a tool to understand how to dress optimally, considering aspects such as the fit of a specific garment, whether structured or fluid-cut garments, as well as choosing the appropriate width or narrowness, the materials and other details. This whole set of elements contributes to achieving visual harmony in the way our clothes fit our figure. As for color, although Kibbe establishes certain chromatic recommendations, he personally leans towards the seasonal theory of color.

The Kibbe Male Body Type Scale is an inclusive tool that covers all male body types, leaving none out. It is not necessary that we meet all the characteristics of a particular type to be classified in that group, but it is essential that we coincide in most of those characteristics so that that body type predominates in our classification.

Kibbe body types for men, like their female counterparts, are divided into 13 distinct categories. These comprise six types with masculine traits of Yang energy and six types with feminine traits of Yin energy. Additionally, there is a core body type known as the Classic body type, characterized by a balanced combination of Yang and Yin energy.

As you already know, Yin traits are associated with feminine characteristics, which include more rounded and delicate shapes, and are usually complemented with fluid style garments that enhance these characteristics. On the other hand, masculine Yang features are characterized by their breadth and more defined features, which is reflected in structured garments with more marked cuts.

Soon, I'll be posting a detailed guide in my store that will go into more depth into Kibbe's male body types. In it, I will explore in more detail how different types of Yang and Yin energy manifest in male bodies, and how these aspects can vary on the Kibbe scale. For example, the Dramatic body type stands out for its more pronounced Yang characteristics, while the Romantic body type is characterized by a greater presence of feminine Yin traits.
